Plagiarism Policy
DAYA-MAS: Media Komunikasi dan Informasi Hasil Pengabdian dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat
1. Policy Statement
DAYA-MAS is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in all published articles. The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of publication misconduct.
All manuscripts submitted to DAYA-MAS must represent original scholarly work and appropriately acknowledge the ideas, words, data, images, methods, and other materials derived from external sources.
2. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, data, images, research findings, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment or citation.
Plagiarism may include, but is not limited to:
a. Direct Plagiarism: Copying text or material from another source without quotation marks or appropriate attribution.
b. Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining phrases or passages from different sources without proper acknowledgment.
c. Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another person's ideas or arguments without citing the original source.
d. Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's previously published work without appropriate citation or disclosure.
e. Duplicate Publication: Submitting or publishing substantially the same work in more than one publication without appropriate disclosure and editorial approval.
f. Misuse of Third-Party Materials: Using photographs, illustrations, tables, instruments, or other materials without proper attribution or required permission.
3. Originality and Citation Requirements
Authors must ensure that all submitted manuscripts are original and that all sources are properly cited and included in the reference list.
For community service and community empowerment articles, authors must accurately acknowledge relevant sources, including theoretical frameworks, implementation methods, training materials, instruments, previously published reports, and third-party images or documentation.
Authors must also ensure that descriptions of activities, participant numbers, evaluation results, community responses, and reported outcomes are accurate and supported by appropriate evidence.
Reusing materials from previous community service reports or publications must be transparently disclosed and appropriately cited. Material that has already been published must not be presented as entirely new work.
4. Plagiarism Screening
DAYA-MAS may screen submitted manuscripts using plagiarism detection software or other appropriate methods before or during the editorial and peer-review process.
The screening process is intended to identify potential textual overlap and other concerns requiring editorial assessment. Similarity scores are not, by themselves, definitive evidence of plagiarism. Editors will consider the nature, extent, context, attribution, and source of the identified similarities.
The journal may request clarification, revisions, additional citations, or supporting documentation from authors when necessary.
5. Similarity Assessment
DAYA-MAS does not determine plagiarism solely on the basis of a single similarity percentage. Editorial decisions are based on the substantive assessment of the manuscript, including whether overlapping material is properly cited, whether quotations and references are appropriate, and whether substantial portions of the work reproduce existing publications without sufficient originality.
Where the journal adopts a specific similarity threshold, that threshold will be communicated transparently to authors through the Author Guidelines or submission requirements.
6. Consequences of Plagiarism and Publication Misconduct
If plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct are suspected, the editorial team will assess the available evidence and provide the authors with an opportunity to respond, where appropriate.
Depending on the severity and circumstances, editorial actions may include:
• Rejection of the submitted manuscript.
• A request for correction or substantial revision.
• Suspension of the editorial process while the concern is investigated.
• Retraction or correction of a published article when warranted.
• Notification to the authors' affiliated institutions or relevant authorities when justified and consistent with applicable procedures.
Serious or repeated violations may result in additional editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
7. Responsibilities of Authors
All authors are responsible for ensuring the originality and integrity of their manuscripts. Before submission, authors must:
• Verify that all borrowed ideas, words, data, images, and other materials are properly acknowledged.
• Check the accuracy and completeness of citations and references.
• Obtain permission for copyrighted materials when required.
• Disclose relevant overlap with previous publications or manuscripts.
• Ensure that reported community service activities and outcomes are truthful and accurately represented.
8. Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers
Editors and reviewers are expected to uphold academic integrity and confidentiality. Any suspected plagiarism or publication misconduct identified during editorial assessment or peer review should be reported to the editorial team for appropriate investigation.
All allegations must be handled fairly, confidentially, and consistently with the journal's publication ethics procedures.
9. Use of Plagiarism Detection and Artificial Intelligence
Plagiarism detection tools may assist the editorial team in identifying textual similarities, but editorial judgment remains essential.
The use of artificial intelligence does not exempt authors from their responsibility to ensure originality, verify factual claims, acknowledge sources, and comply with the journal's AI policy. AI-generated text must not be used to conceal plagiarism, fabricate evidence, or misrepresent the actual implementation and results of community service activities.
10. Policy Review
DAYA-MAS may periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in publication ethics, scholarly publishing standards, and editorial practice.
